Longman Website
The timeline was very interesting that the culture, politics, and literature were connected in some way. -Keely Chow
It was very interesting how slave trading was abolished in Britain in 1807, but it took until 1838, when the Immediate Abolition Act was passed, to end slavery all together. It was pretty awesome how Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein while being a woman during that time. --Matt Mordecai
| I found out that Mary Wollstonecraft was a very influential character in the 1790's. I hate to admit it, but I had never heard of her before taking this class! I found it liberating and quite comical that in her book Vindication of the Rights of Women she comments that the ONLY reason women weren't equal to men was because they were poorly educated!! Then when Jean-Jacques Rousseau responds that women are naturally weaker and and more passive than men, Mary responds, "What Nonsense!" I think I would've liked Mary Wollstonecraft!! -Andi Berens |
I loved reading about Mary Wollstonecraft's life. From start till end it was so dramatic. It had adultry, attempted suicides, tragic deaths, and more. There's no wonder she felt like she had something to write about. -Kristina
The website was intresting, giving essentual information on the important authors/poets of the time, not to mention selected works of those individuals along with a very inaccurate timeline (the triangle was over 1800 and I was viewing the 30's and 40's). All in all, I'd give it an B-. Chris H.
While I wish it was a bit more in depth, I really loved the way the timeline presented literature, culture, and politics together. It gave a very informative perspective on how these three elements related to each other as times changed -kristopher
I found it very interesting but not suprising that Mary Wollstonecrafts "Vindication of the Rights of Women" was used nearly fifty years later during the American and Europeans women's movements. It was interesting to me that her writing reached that many people during that time period and was the influential to that many people. -Erin
I thought that this website was very informative and well organized. It was easy to navigate, and had many helpful different links. I thought that the section with information on the authors was very nice and interesting. - Mary
The Longman website had some interesting info in it; about abolition and Mary Wollstonecraft and whatnot. I found myself spending most of my time in the Blake archive. I really like his artwork. I liked the sketches of Job alot. I found it interesting that he only did one art show in his life. ---Toby
This site was very informative and interesting. I was very intrigued by the family circle of the Shelly's and how Mary Shelley and Percy Shelley came to become married. I found it interesting how many of the important authors of the time were all connected in some way to eachother. ~Julie
The time line is very helpful it alows for an easy placment of some of the major works of the period in connection with each other. The Digital Archive Index is also an easy place to find authors and their works. Matthew M
Longman's website is very useful & will continue to be so in the upcoming months while we continue to delve deep into the Romantic time period. The timeline is useful as well. It continues to amaze me how 220 years ago women's rights & equality for all people were first introduced, not in the previous century, yet the actions taken by people to stop were very little recognized. Also, how cool is it that Beehtoven's music helped influence the Romantic writers as well? - Natalie Raymond
I find it interesting, in general, how ignorant we are about events that have occurred outside our country's borders. Examining this timeline showed that the British people dealt with many of the same struggles that Americans have....women's rights, abolition of slavery, etc. Many times we praise ourselves for triumphing over these bumps in the road, but looking at this layout of history shows America was not the only country to face the issues and, more importantly, was not the first to overcome them. You realize through these dates given that specific movements in America were most likely in response to hardships that were endured somewhere else first rather than by our own convictions. It's all pretty eye-opening to me. -ANDREW HARDIMAN
The Longman website has a lot of useful additions to it. Not only the timeline but the mini quizzes you can take could help with the understanding of whatever area you are studying. As well as the other numerous resources you have access to by just clicking on web resources.-J.Weaver
The Longman website was all right... it had less information on it. I spent most of my time looking at William Blakes works.--Chase
| I found the website to be very helpful. I especially loved the romantic and victorian periods. They are so alike but yet so different at the same time. I would definitely use this website if I needed help understanding something, or if I just needed to research something.-Calen R. |
I liked the time lines on the Longman website. I eventually came around to the Blake archive site. What a great search tool for such a large collection. The images are impressive. This must have taken a while to collect and organize. -Ian
I thought the timeline on the Longman website was a great resource. It was interesting to scroll through a condensed version of what we've been learning. I really liked the section in the Victorian timline about Queen Victoria. It's odd to think of one person having power over 1/4 of the world's land mass. - Meridith
